Grade 7 to Quebec City

Chloe McKay, Grade 7 student
At 7:00 am on February 2nd, two motor coaches full of excited Grade 7 students departed from The Country Day School on a 10-hour journey to Quebec City.

When we finally arrived at our hotel, we took a chilly walk to dinner while taking in the sights of Vieux-Quebec. After our meal and the long day, we were happy to tuck in for the night.

In the morning, with lots of snow falling, everyone got suited up for an amazing day of outdoor activities. We made our way dog sledding and snowshoeing immediately following breakfast. Dog sledding was very fun! Going through the trails with the dogs was thrilling. While snowshoeing, we followed a trail lined with snow covered trees which resembled a winter wonderland!

We had free time in Old Quebec for lunch at local cafes, followed by a walk to the famous Quebec Winter Carnival. Carnival features so many winter activities, from maple syrup on a stick, beaver tales, ice sculptures, tubing and lots of winter fun! Our return walk back back from Carnival was quite cold and windy, but we pushed through.

One of the highlights of the trip was night tubing! With no lines, amazing hills, and lots of fun, it was awesome!

Our last full day in Quebec was one of the best. Skiing and snowboarding all day! We all had a great lesson on the hill in the morning, then the rest of the day to explore the runs at Stoneham Mountain Resort.

We finished up the day with dinner then a dance with a great view of the Montmorency Falls. The next morning, we headed out to start our trek back to CDS. The two buses were reportedly much quieter on the return trip than when we left.

Thank you teachers for an amazing trip! We also can't forget our two tour guides, Brendan and Sandra, who helped make it an adventure we will never forget!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
