CDS Alumna Selected to Play for Canada's U20 Rugby Team

McKinley Hunt received the news earlier this week via email that she has been selected to play for Canada on the U20 National Women's Rugby Team against England’s U20 squad at Trent College in Nottingham, August 18, 22 and 26. The full roster will be posted in the coming days.
“This has been a dream of mine,” said McKinley, who learned she had been long listed for the team back in February. “It has been a long time coming, lots of early mornings and late nights.”

McKinley first started playing rugby as a student at The Country Day School in Grade 9. Four years later, she captained the CDS Senior Girls’ team to its 11th consecutive CISAA championship, and earlier this month captained the U20 Provincial team, Ontario Storm, to win Gold at the 2016 Canadian Rugby Championships. She also plays for the Senior Barbarians and will play for Queen’s University for the second season this year.

Upon arrival in England on August 13, the 26-member team will practice for five days before they play their first game on the 18. We wish her all the best!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
