CDS Student Wins World Champion in Debating Title

Olivia Railton '17 and Natalie Ganzhorn '16 both put forth impressive performances at the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships last week in Hong Kong.

Both girls made it to the finals; Natalie for persuasive speech and Olivia for debate. Natalie finished in 3rd place in Persuasive Speaking. She spoke about the lack of awareness of treatment options for those suffering from anxiety disorders.

Meanwhile, Olivia went on to compete as one of the top four debaters in the Grand Finals on Saturday before an audience of 1000 people - and finished as this year's World Champion in Debating. The resolution of the final round of debate was: This House would mandate that Western Liberal Democracies send ONLY female ambassadors to countries with poor records of women’s rights.

Congratulations to both of them, as well as their outstanding coach - Mrs. Wyndham-West!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
