Coming Soon: The Purple Window

The food program in our CDS Country Kitchen has been a tremendous success. Our students are eating a healthy, hot lunch and the majority of the logistical issues associated with our start-up have been properly sorted.

One area that continues to demand our full attention is how we are accommodating those in our midst with serious allergy and food intolerance concerns. You can imagine that with over 700 students eating every day, there are quite a large number of individual concerns to deal with. And the fact that there are many choices available in our Marché-style servery complicates this.

Allergy concerns are something that we need to get right every day. Therefore, if you have previously identified your child’s allergy concerns to our catering staff, and your child is in JK-Grade 3, expect a follow up call in the next few days from our nutritionist who will check in with you personally to make sure we are getting it right.

For our older students (Grades 4-12) with identified allergy concerns, or food sensitivities and intolerances, we will be opening a new, dedicated “allergy and food intolerance window” that we will refer to as the purple window. The area will be readily identifiable to all students with dietary restrictions, and it will be staffed by a dedicated team member attuned to daily ingredients and with specific knowledge of all of our students’ food allergy requirements. The purple window is currently in the works and we plan to have it in working order later next week.

The purple window will become an obvious destination and safe haven for our students with allergy concerns and will help us to continue to provide safe lunches every day.

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
