Robotics Team Brings Home Silver

After 3 long days of competing, the CDS Cyclone Robotics team #4951 made it into the playoffs (only 24 of 41 teams qualified) at last week’s Greater Toronto Regional FRC competition.
The CDS alliance proceeded to win its quarter-final matches and semi-final matches; and although they lost narrowly in the final round, they brought home silver medals, a plaque and a trophy for their finalist placement.

Prior to their departure, Robotics Coach Chris Wappel shared his expectations, “We are still finalizing all of the robot’s features but our goal is to be able to cross the other teams defenses using 8” pneumatics wheels, a custom pivot arm to open gates, and a two motor shooter to launch boulders at the opponents castle to score points.” They were successful on all fronts!

The team will travel to Windsor for the final meet in April.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
