BYOD: Bring Your Own Device

Last Friday, our Grade 11 and 12 students were introduced to an exciting new initiative in the Senior School. As part of their graduated responsibility, they will now be able to bring their own device to school if they wish and use it when it is deemed necessary for educational purposes.
This includes laptops, tablets and Chrome Books. This does not include smart phones or watches.

Our philosophy regarding technology at The Country Day School continues to be that a student’s use of their technology will be considered. Within the classroom, it will continue to be at the discretion of the teacher. Instead of using a school-supplied Chrome Book, when appropriate within a class or study period, the students will now be able to use their own devices. In order to use their device at school, students will apply to register them with our IT department; at that time, they will also sign their BYOD Technology Contract outlining their responsibilities. Filtered internet will be available for those bringing their own devices and for those continuing to use CDS Chromebooks. Students will also be able to use their devices in assigned areas of the School.

We are excited to offer another facet of opportunity for students to foster their academic growth and develop the appropriate, responsible use of technology in their lives. Our emphasis will continue to be on technology with balance.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
