The CDS Robotics team kicked off their build season in early January with a small group of students meeting in a rarely-visited corner of the school. Students from Grades 9 to 12 collaborated to design, prototype, build, and program a robot. Much like the robot itself, the team is made up of a variety of parts: groups of students working together towards a common goal.
Each year, FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) releases a new game, and teams around the world compete in regionals to earn a spot in the international championships. This year, the game is called Destination: Deep Space. Teams were challenged to build robots that will load cargo and hatch panels on spaceships that are preparing for takeoff on an alien planet.
The team is looking forward to the upcoming competition at Western University this weekend and are working hard to ensure that their robot is ready to compete.
After all their efforts, the students are excited to ensure this year is the best one yet. The robot is now able to accomplish all of the essential game tasks, but the team is always working to improve its capabilities and and efficiency.
The event starts on Friday evening with matches running all day Saturday and into Sunday morning. Playoffs are Sunday afternoon, and we are hopeful that we will make it into the playoffs! Our team’s results and standings will be live-updated on https://www.thebluealliance.com/team/4951 if you would like to follow our progress and watch a livestream of the matches. Their team number is 4951.
The team is excited about this weekend, but also are already looking ahead to future seasons as they continue to build and perfect their robotic skills. Together they have further developed their knowledge of robotics and are ready to show off what they have learned over the past few months.
