Board of Director Open House/ Information Session

    Parent Association Meeting Room
Would you like to learn more about the role of our Board of Directors or are you interested in becoming a member? The CDS Board of Directors is hosting an Open House on Thursday, March 2nd at 4:00 pm in the Parent Association Meeting Room located in the Senior School entrance. Members of the current Board will be on hand to speak with interested parents and prospective Board members in advance of the March Board meeting.

The Board of Directors of The Country Day School is a group of volunteers with diverse interests and fields of expertise who serve the school through participation on the Board and the Standing Committees of the Board. As an independent, not-for-profit organization, this volunteer Board is tasked with overseeing the governance of the school including the oversight of strategy, policy and management.

Members include business and community leaders who are drawn from the larger CDS community including CDS alumni, current or past parents and independent representatives. Each spring the Governance Committee ensures that the Board is appropriately populated to meet the objectives of the coming year and calls for nominations of interested candidates. Directors are selected based on an assessment of the technical skills, experiences and governance capabilities required to advance the interests of the school. New members are elected at the Annual General Meeting in the fall and serve set terms.

Those interested in attending the Board of Director Open House on Thursday, March 2nd, please RSVP to judy.zrnec@cds.on.ca. Should you be interested in pursuing this opportunity, please send the Nomination Form to the attention of the Chair of the Governance Committee, David Myers, in the Senior School Office.

    In-Person Parent Double Book Review

    Senior School Library
Please join us for wine, cheese and conversation on Tuesday, March 29th at 7 pm, accompanied by a lively book discussion led by Senior School Librarian, Melissa Rutledge.

    Two novels to discuss:

    - Remarkably Bright Creatures by: Shelby Van Pelt
This debut novel is a gentle reminder that sometimes taking a hard look at the past can help uncover a future that once felt impossible. The following is Goodreads' description of Remarkably Bright Creatures: "A charming, witty and compulsively readable exploration of friendship, reckoning, and hope, tracing a widow's unlikely connection."

Lessons in Chemistry by: Bonnie Garmus
Best-selling debut author Bonnie Garmus has created Elizabeth Zott, a research chemist battling a sexist 1950s and 60s establishment, as the role model she craved — and found that readers wanted the same.
Named 2022 Book of the Year by Barnes & Noble, please don't judge this book by its cover. “All’s fair in love and chemistry. It’s 1960s California and there are certain things that women just don’t do. When scientist Elizabeth Zott finds herself the host of a television cooking show, she kicks off a revolution that does more than just challenge the status quo.”
We cannot wait to discuss this book with you! As one reviewer wrote, “It is utterly unputdownable!”

We ask that you kindly let us know in advance if you are able to join us so that we can plan for numbers. Happy reading!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
