Nancy Promane

CDS Head of Music
How do you continue learning in your life? What is your passion?
Working full time at CDS while attending the University of Toronto part-time, and achieving my Masters in Music has been an important lesson in my life. My passion is music and connecting with students on an academic and emotional level is what pushes me to continue to learn as well. It is my hope that fostering and instilling an interest in music with my students, and guiding them through an emotional musical journey will lead to an appreciation of lifelong learning - resulting in becoming productive, thoughtful members of their community.

What is one of your most memorable teaching moments or interaction with students?
Anytime a student quotes me. Apparently, I have been known for saying something comical, and students in rehearsal have resorted to writing down my quotes in some of their band folders. Anytime I can make a student laugh; and anytime they can make me laugh; attending music festivals, national or international trips, and of course every music camp!

Favourite thing about working at CDS:
Working with my students and having the opportunities such as travel afforded to them, and the confidence of the school to allow us to undertake these incredible opportunities; the entire faculty and staff – what wonderful people!! I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the fantastic Dining Hall!

Something you’ve crossed off your Bucket List:
Taking international trips with interested music students and spreading joy and happiness to audiences abroad while performing concerts; knowing that I made my parents proud.

Outside of CDS I’m … Exactly who I am. What you see is what you get…flaws and all!
