Ms. Gisa Bevacqua-Tirone
Guidance Counsellor & Learning Strategist
Adalgisa Bevacqua-Tirone joined The Country Day School Faculty in 2006 after gaining eight years of experience in the public system and in spring 2014 she was appointed Head of English and continues to teach with the Drama department. In 2021, she also joined the Student Services Centre team part-time with a counselling caseload of students in grades 9-12. Ms. Bevacqua-Tirone's extensive credentials include an Honours BA with a Theatre and Drama Studies specialty and minors in English and History (University of Toronto-Erindale College). She also holds a 3-year Acting and Theatre Studies Diploma from Sheridan College, specializing in voice, Shakespearean text, clown and mask, stage combat and improvisation. Ms. Bevacqua-Tirone earned her Intermediate/Senior Division B.Ed. from the University of Toronto/OISE. She holds an Honours Specialist Additional Qualification in teaching Drama and also studied in Stratford, Ontario. More recently, she gained her part 1 AQ in both Special Ed and Guidance.
To date, she has served as coach to team finalists of the Canadian Improv Games; has directed, produced or assisted backstage for many curricular and extra-curricular productions, including Tectonic Theatre Projects’ The Laramie Project, and has directed Senior CDS students in demanding productions for the Conference of Independent Schools’ Drama Festival (CISDF), highlights include Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, and having students place in the inaugural year of the Stratford Challenge. Ms. Bevacqua-Tirone is able to share her own stage experiences with students, for her own acting credits include Same Time Next Year with Markham Little Theatre and Rimers of Eldritch with Theatre Erindale. Ms. Bevacqua-Tirone is continually inspired by her students and is grateful for the opportunity each day to expose them to theatre.
