New Outdoor Education Appointment

I am pleased to announce Mr. Andy MacMillan as our new Outdoor Education Coordinator for the Middle and Senior Schools. With a rich and varied background in outdoor experiences, Andy is well-positioned to extend our already successful Junior School outdoor education program into our Middle and Senior Schools.

Andy will work collaboratively with teachers across many subjects to identify curricular areas most suitable for outdoor education activities, as well as facilitate learning extensions on our 100-acre property and more distant locations. He will also be responsible for developing and teaching a new Grade 9 course in Green Technologies. Together with Steph Collins, he will co-chair our “Going Green” initiatives committee stemming from our new strategic plan to be released in the fall.

Please join me in congratulating Mr. MacMillan on this exciting new role!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
