Mr. David Huckvale

Director of Admission and Post-Secondary Counselling
David Huckvale joined CDS in the summer of 2008, his first position in the independent school system after 10 years of service at York University in Toronto.
At York, Mr. Huckvale held increasingly senior leadership positions, culminating with the role of Director of Recruitment. He has been a key member of a number of provincial committees and boards including: the Ontario University Application Centre, the Ontario Universities' Fair Steering Committee and Chair of the Provincial Standing Committee on Secondary School Liaison. Mr. Huckvale is currently a member of two international counselor organizations (NACAC, OACAC) and the UBC and York University Counselor Advisory Committees. He holds Level I (Theory), Level II Technical and Practical (Baseball) NCCP certification and has coached in the Ontario Baseball Association for the last decade.

In his role as Director of Admission and Post-Secondary Counselling at CDS, Mr. Huckvale has the luxury of working with and getting to know students from the beginning of their Country Day School experience, right up until they graduate. This gives him a unique and valuable perspective when guiding students as they develop, discover and identify the directions they wish to take at the post-secondary level. Mr. Huckvale also serves as GY Advisor and Coach of the Senior Boys' Baseball team each spring. He enjoys working with young people because their youthful energy and exuberance is contagious. His favorite moments on the job are: when he offers admission to a student who has been on pins and needles; and when a graduating year student comes in and exclaims: "I got in!"

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
