CDS Loses a Great One

We mourn the loss of a giant in the CDS community. Our beloved Gord Lytle, Head of Maintenance, passed away in April 2017 after a short illness.

We are very pleased to be able to announce and celebrate the naming of the Workshop within the Performing Arts Centre in honour of our friend and colleague, who served as Head of Maintenance at CDS for 29 years. To make a contribution, please visit www.cds.on.ca/gordlytle.

“I can’t express what an enormous loss this is to our community. Gord has been an anchor at CDS for almost 30 years and we will miss him deeply,” said Head of School, John Liggett in his announcement to faculty and staff.

The thoughts and prayers of our entire community are with the Lytle family at this time. Gord’s obituary may be found here.

CDS has lost its very own Hagrid. Flags will fly at half-mast for the duration of the week in Gord’s honour.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
