Final Coffee House of 2016-17

On Thursday, April 20, the Senior School students, faculty and staff gathered at The Learning Stairs for the much-anticipated final Coffee House of the year. As always, the event was very successful; we had some great performances and a very good turnout.

There were songs sung and poems recited. There were many Grade 12s who performed and said a few words about how much Coffee Houses have meant to them, because it was their last one here at CDS. They all acknowledged that the Coffee Houses were a significant, memorable part of their CDS experience and explained how they felt like they were very much a part of a special community at these events because they allowed them to express their artistic sides.

The event was emceed by Mckenna Ryan (GY) and Nicholas Adams (11), and they worked together well to encourage nervous performers and to celebrate the talents of everyone there. We all enjoyed hot chocolate, coffee and tea from the Dining Hall, as well as fabulous baked goods by our Portraits Editor, Kate Turner (GY).

At the end of the evening, after an emotional final performance by long-time Coffee House supporters, Corson Panneton (GY) and Sam Cantor (GY) this year’s amazing Portraits publication was revealed, and students were invited to take their copies home. A huge thanks goes out to Corson Panneton and Sam Cantor for setting up and running the tech-side of the night, and to Kate Turner for leading the event. Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
