CDS DECA Students Compete at Internationals

On April 24th, Madison-Shira Hossack, Isabella Giancola-Schieda and Kabir Walia, along with their advisor, Ms. Aldoroty, ventured to Anaheim, California for the three students to compete in the 2017 International Career Development Conference (ICDC) as a part of the Senior School’s DECA business club.

In order to qualify for ICDC, students had to place in the top seven in their category during the provincial competition that took place in Toronto in February and included more than 6,000 high school participants in various categories. Qualifying for ICDC is a formidable feat in itself. Isabella and Kabir teamed up to compete in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan in which they had to develop a new product and pitch it in a Dragon’s Den style competition. Madison competed in the Professional Selling Event in which this year’s task was to develop a presentation that convinced real estate agents on the benefits of using drone technology in their field.

More than 20,000 students attended this year’s ICDC with all students qualifying in their own state or country. Madison qualified for the final round along with one other teammate from Ontario. All three of our CDS students should be proud of their accomplishments!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
