Our Grads are Going Places
While they will always be Cyclones, our grads are about to become Tigers, Warriors, Golden Gaels and even Gryphons, at universities across Canada and around the world.
After a brief break from the top of the list (last year The University of Toronto was the most popular destination), Queen’s University has once again captured the hearts of the largest group of our graduating class with 14 of our graduates heading to Kingston. Wilfrid Laurier, Waterloo, Dalhousie and Western round out the top five destinations. The Class of 2017 has Canada covered with the University of British Columbia and St. Francis Xavier in Nova Scotia stretching our representation from coast-to-coast. In total, 20% of our GYs are leaving the province or the country, including a duo heading across the pond to the University of Oxford.
In yet another example of the balance that we strive for here at CDS, there is a broad range of academic and professional disciplines being pursued by this group. Science leads the way with 38% of our graduates pursuing Life Science, Physical Science or Engineering degrees. The Humanities and Social Sciences follow close behind with 35%, Business at 19%, Design and Visual Arts 4% and Professional Programs representing 4% of the placements.
Some unique and interesting disciplines include: Nanotechnology Engineering, Media, Information & Technoculture (MIT), and Biomedical Sciences, to name just a few. On the Commerce front, CDS students have accepted offers from the Rotman School, Richard Ivey, Smith School at Queen’s, and the Schulich School of Business.
A number of students have decided to defer or forgo offers of admission to travel, work and build lifelong experiences before pursuing post-secondary studies. The “Gap Year” is a time-honoured tradition in many parts of the world, and the value of an experiential year is becoming more and more popular in Canada and at CDS.
Wherever they are headed, we will miss them and know that they will make us proud!

Land Acknowledgment
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
