In the Spirit of Community, Get in Gear!

The word community has deep routes at CDS and comes up in almost every meaningful conversation we have, whether it be with prospective or current families, students, alumni or CDS Grandparents on Grandparents’ Day. We take immense pride in our growing community and the events we host for them.

One of these events is already in its third year, the Gianni Giro Bike for Heart. This 5km, 45km or 90km ride, championed by a current CDS family, will take place on Sunday, September 24 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. It is a wonderful way to spend a morning for both serious cyclers and families and friends alike.

The registration fee includes an incredible BBQ lunch and hike throughout the 100-acre campus, as well as live music and a fun fair for the kids. Proceeds from this event will benefit Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, UHN. Click to see the schedule for the day.

All are welcome so please invite friends and family to join in! Additional details can be found at www.cds.on.ca/giannigiro.

We are also looking for student volunteers, a perfect opportunity for your Grades 9-12 students to work toward fulfilling their 40-hour community service requirement by helping out with water stations, registration, parking and general support. Those interested should contact Tracey Scott. CDS and non-CDS students are welcome! CDS students can complete the attached form and submit to Mrs. Huckvale in the Student Services Centre.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
