Grade 7s Partake in 'Book Tasting'

The Grade 7s enjoyed an exciting trip to the Library with Librarian Mrs. Rutledge Wednesday, to select books for their independent reading projects. They took part in a "book tasting" which involved sampling numerous young adult novels from a variety of genres to help them to find the perfect one to read!

Books were categorized by genres into appetizers (science fiction and fantasy novels) , soups (adventure stories), salads (sports-related books), main courses (realistic fiction), dessert (historical novels). As you can see, the students were so engaged that they didn't want to leave.

After sampling a particularly tasty morsel, one student was heard to say: "This book has everything I could possibly want in a novel." Music to an English teacher's ears!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
