Senior Boys’ Soccer 2017 CAIS Tournament

Sandy Townsend, Sr. Boys' Soccer Coach

Last week, the Senior Boys’ Soccer team traveled to St. George’s School in Vancouver for the 2017 CAIS soccer tournament. It was bleary eyed group of boys that gathered at 6:30 am Wednesday at Pearson Airport for the long trip west. Upon arrival, the team made its way to Stanley Park for a light practice and kick around. By the time they returned to the hotel everyone was ready for a shower, dinner and then bed.

On Thursday morning, Vancouver lived up to its reputation by bringing some of the rainiest and coldest weather ever seen by the players and coaching staff. Nonetheless, the team played on and were able to strike late to earn a 2-2 tie with Bishop’s College School. After lunch and some hot showers to thaw their weary muscles, the team headed out to play Ridley College in the afternoon under skies that threatened but never delivered any rain. CDS went up 1-0 in the first half but were unable to hold the lead and eventually fell 2-1.

Friday was a beautiful day in the Lower Mainland with sunny blue skies and warming temperatures. The weather was so nice it distracted the team from playing their usual high press game and they fell hard, 9-2 to Saltus Grammar School from Bermuda. The team recovered their bearings in time for the afternoon match against Albert College as they crushed their opposition 8-1.

That result put the team into the Bronze division Championship game on Saturday morning against Stanstead College from Quebec. CDS continued its winning ways defeating their opponent 5-0 to claim the title.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
