DECA And a Passion for Music Inspire Student's Project

DECA is an international association of high school and college students and teachers of marketing, management and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality, and marketing sales and service. The organization prepares leaders and entrepreneurs for careers and education in marketing, finance, hospitality, management, and other business areas. Faculty advisor Laura Aldoroty has been involved with DECA since its implentation in 2011, and has traveled with students to places like Salt Lake City, Atlanta and Nashville to name a few.

Grade 12 student Isabella Giancola has been involved with DECA for her entire high school career. Each year, CDS DECA members enter Challenges to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in a particular area. For the past two years, Isabella has chosen the Entrepreneurship Innovation Plan and made it to Internationals twice in this category! This year, she decided to try something new and has chosen the event entitled the Community Service Project. The Community Service Project "provides an opportunity to develop a better understanding of the role civic activities have in society, to make a contribution to a community service or charity, and to learn and apply the principles of marketing and project management skills."

To complete this project, Isabella is required to execute a fundraiser, complete a write-up (up to 30 pages) and give a presentation by mid-January. With Isabella's passion for music, she has chosen to support a charity called MusiCounts.

"My goal of this assignment is to be able to help at least one child to be exposed to the wonders of music. I have been so fortunate throughout my life to be exposed to an excellent music education and I believe that it is my time to give back," says Isabella.

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
