Take Me Outside Day

Steph Collins, Junior School Outdoor Education
On Wednesday, October 25th, the Junior School participated in a Canada-wide initiative called Take Me Outside Day. Started in 2011, this day helps to bring awareness to our connection with nature and time spent outside. Schools across Canada were encouraged to spend at least one hour outdoors.

In true CDS fashion, we went above and beyond the one hour, with some classes spending every period outside! There were mountain bikers riding at the same time that classes read quietly under trees. Math classes went on shape hunts, and music classes took their singing outdoors. It truly was an amazing thing to see so many happy faces outdoors.

Congratulations to all classes who took the Take Me Outside Day challenge.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
