CDS Alumni Are Back in the Classroom!

Whether you are touring the Junior School, stopping into Admissions, walking past a Senior School Math or Science class or Grade 10 Careers Class – CDS Alumni are back on campus and we are so happy to have them!

“In the past, we’ve had one or two alumni teaching at any given time, but never the critical mass we have today,” commented Head of School, John Liggett. “I think having seven alumni on staff speaks volumes about their time here as students, and that they want to come back to where they spent their elementary and secondary school years. It really is a special place.”

Deirdre Tait
is one of our Original alumna, having attended from JK through Grade 8, as CDS did not have a Senior School until 1986. She returned as a teacher in 1999 and has taught Senior Kindergarten, Grade 1 and 2, and is now a Resource teacher in the Junior School.

Liz Duckett ’98 returned to campus in July as the newest addition to the Admission and University Placement Office. It’s wonderful having a member of the Duckett family back in our midst.

Andrew Bartle ’04 joined CDS in 2010, initially as a Phys-Ed teacher in the Senior School. He went on to teach Grade 4, and is now teaching Phys-Ed and Outdoor Education in the Junior School.

Alanna Houston ’07 returned in 2014, initially helping out in the Senior School Math and Middle School Science departments, and is now teaching Grade 10 Science and serves as a Guidance Counsellor in the Student Services Centre.

Caitlin (Barnes) Tamane’09 joined us full time in 2016, initially in the role of Before and After School Coordinator, and this year as a Senior Kindergarten teacher.

Joshua Simmonds ’09 did his practicum last spring teaching two Grade 10 Math classes and a Grade 11 Physics class with Mr. Edwards and Mr. Moorlag, and was hired back this year as an Associate Teacher in Middle and Senior School.

Megan Lavis ’13, who has always made a point of coming back to help with the Junior School drama productions since graduating from Junior School in 2007, has been hired part-time as Theatre Production Assistant.

As we continue to re-engage with our 1500 alumni across the country and the world, we are thrilled to see that so many of these special members of our community, have not only chosen to pursue teaching professions, but have elected come back to CDS to launch their meaningful careers.

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
