Traffic Light Update

John Liggett, Head of School
Great news for safe and easy access to CDS! After a successful appeal to York Region Council last week, we can now confirm that the School has obtained approval to install a traffic light at our main entrance at the School’s expense, which will be supported by this year's Auction.
With traffic continuing to increase on Dufferin Street, we are pleased that our request has finally been granted. Thanks to our local King councillor Clive Mortelliti and Mayor Steve Pellegrini for their help in moving this through the various channels.

Legal agreements still need to be fashioned and the work procured and carried out, meaning that, at the earliest, we are estimating September 2018 as a completion date.

In the meantime, please remember the following safety protocols when driving on school property:
  • only pick-up or drop-off students from a designated parking spot or designated drop-off lane (not from the middle of the active roadway or from the entrance to PAC parking lot)
  • observe a safe speed and be especially aware of pedestrians as this is an active school zone
  • please be patient
Thank you,

John Liggett
Head of School

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
