Brothers Place 1st & 3rd at Water Ski Nat’l Championships

Leo Bigourdan, a Grade 7 student at CDS, is a three-event competitive water skier, competing in Slalom, Tricks and Jump. Last summer, he won 1st place in Slalom and placed 4th overall in the Boys’ U12 division at the Water Ski National Championships in Calgary.

This was a huge accomplishment for Leo considering he only started competing three years ago. His national title in Slalom was the highlight of his summer and was very inspiring and rewarding for both he and his younger brother. Ty, who is in Grade 6 at CDS, placed third overall in the three events.

"It's not about where your starting point is, but your end goal and the journey,” says Leo.

The brothers train in the summer at McClintock’s Water Ski School in Cambridge and practice at Spray Lake Water Sports and Activity Centre in King (Keele & Hwy 9). They also spend every school break in Florida throughout the winter to keep up with their training.

Ty has a similarly great approach to his favourite sport. "You fall a LOT in water skiing and that's ok, as long as you get back up!"

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
