Congrats and Good Luck to our Debaters!

CDS wishes our Grade 11 debaters, Anais Leiva von Bovet and Maeve Tebbutt, all the best as they begin their journey to Cape Town to compete in the World Individual Public Speaking and Debating Championships!

In addition, congratulations to Grade 8 debaters Arjun Walia, Danyal Hakeem and Tomas Chacin on their performance at the Junior Provincial Public Speaking Qualifiers at UTS on March 27. Both Arjun and Tomas won awards, and Arjun’s second place award qualified him to attend Nationals in Vancouver this May as one of 12 Grade 7-9 students from Ontario!

The competition required the boys to write and memorize eight-minute speeches, have an interpretive reading, and present for three to five minutes without the use of notes after only two minutes of prep time. A tall order for anyone, but the competition was quite steep with more than 40 competitors and only the top 12 qualifying for Nationals.

Great work boys!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
