Idle Free Zones Coming Soon

The Country Day School will be establishing idle-free zones in the pick-up/drop-off areas in front of the PAC, the Senior School and in the Junior School. An idle-free zone is an area where drivers are encouraged not to leave their engine on while waiting for their children. The idea of an idle-free zone at CDS was created from a student’s initiative in their Independent Study Unit in the Green Industries course.

Idling is an action that has no benefits. Idling not only affects the environment but it also negatively impacts the health of your children, wastes money and fuel, and damages your vehicle’s engine. It is in you and your child’s best interest not to idle. We are reaching out to you to ask for your cooperation once the signs have gone up, and to please not idle.

Thank you for your support!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
