Our Grads are Going Places

While they will always be Cyclones, our grads are about to become Mustangs, Ravens, Tigers and even Falcons, at universities across Canada and abroad.

Queen’s University has once again captured the hearts of the largest group of our graduating class with 14 of our best and brightest heading to Kingston. Wilfrid Laurier, University of Toronto, Western, and newcomer to the top of the list, Carleton, round out the top five destinations, each with double digit enrolments. For the second year in a row St. Francis Xavier in Nova Scotia gets the furthest from CDS but still in Canada award. Best of luck to our students heading to the University of Edinburgh and the University of Southern California as well.

In yet another example of the balance that we strive for here at CDS, there is a broad range of academic and professional disciplines being pursued by this group or grads. The Humanities and Social Sciences lead the way having been selected by 42% of our grads, with the Life and Physical Sciences, including Engineering degrees, following close behind with 30%. Business programs account for 25% of the selected areas, which is a significant increase from 19% last year. Finally, 4% have chosen to pursue either the Performing or Visual Arts.

Some unique and interesting disciplines include: Forensic Science, Integrated Biomedical Engineering & Health Sciences, Drawing and Painting, Communication & Media Studies and a dual degree in Business and Financial Mathematics. On the Commerce front, CDS students have accepted offers from Rotman, Ivey, Schulich and the Smith School at Queen’s, among other top schools.

A few students have decided to defer or forgo offers of admission to travel, work and build lifelong experiences before pursuing post-secondary studies. The “Gap Year” is a time-honoured tradition in many parts of the world, and the value of an experiential year is becoming more and more popular in Canada and at CDS.

Wherever they are headed, we will miss them but know that they will make us proud!

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
