Don’t Forget to Indulge in Summer Reading!

As you prepare to embark on summer holidays, cottage time, summer camp, summer hours, or just time on your deck; a bounty of delicious summer reading awaits! Whether it's one, two, three or 10 books you plan read this summer; our wonderful CDS librarians have composed some terrific suggested reading for all ages, including adults!

If we were to encourage our children to do just one thing that would contribute to their future success in life, it would be to read more. Our lives today can easily be consumed by social media vying for our attention on our multiple devices and presenting non-stop distractions for children and adults alike.

According to Scholastic, research has shown that if kids don’t use their brains over the summer, they will regress. Losses from ‘Summer Slide’ are cumulative, creating a wider gap each year between more proficient and less proficient students.

We hope these lists are helpful in compiling your summer reading lists. Thank you to Melissa Rutledge and Nadine MacMillan for these great suggestions and happy reading!

Attn: Adults – Feel free to check out our suggestions for both Middle and Senior School too!

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
