Meet the New Faces in the Senior School

Celia Bland
We are pleased to welcome the following new Senior School teachers to our community.

Manny Avila
 joins our Business Department and comes to us with 15 years of teaching experience, having worked at King’s-Edgehill School in Nova Scotia since 2010 and prior to that, international schools in Malaysia and St. Maarten. Mr. Avila has a B.A. from McMaster University and a B.Ed. from Queen’s University.
 
Sarah Barbanchon joins our Fine Art Department with 12 years of experience, having taught at Rotherglen School in Oakville since 2012 and prior to that at Trafalgar Castle and Pickering College. Mrs. Barbanchon has a B.A. from the University of Toronto and a M.Ed. from D’Youville College.
 
Alison Carrie joins the Senior School team as an Associate Teacher having been a stalwart member of our supply team last year. Alison has almost 20 years of teaching experience across the U.K., the Middle East and Canada. Ms. Carrie was the Head of Social Science at Sterling Hall for five years and has a B.Sc. in Geography from the University of Birmingham.
 
Holly Jepson joins our Math Department with six years of experience having taught Grade 8, 10, 11 and 12 Math and Learning Strategies at TMS. She also has Special Education and Guidance qualifications and is particularly well-suited to meeting the needs of all learners in our Math classes. Ms. Jepson holds a B.A. in Mathematics and a B.Ed. from Queen’s University.
 
You will have an opportunity to meet these individuals, as well as the other members of our CDS faculty at the Senior School Curriculum Evening on Thursday, September 27th.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
