CDS Signing Day

November 14th was National Letter of Intent (NLI) Signing Day for students committing to play NCAA Division I or II sports next year. In the spirit of this occasion, CDS held its own Signing Day for two of our top female athletes committing to NCAA Division I schools next year.
Lexie McKay ’19, an accomplished golfer from King’s Riding Golf Club, has committed to Brigham Young University (BYU) in Utah. As last summer came to a close, she worried that her late entrance into the recruiting process would be a disadvantage. In the end, she had a choice to make between BYU and the University of Nevada. According to Lexie, it was a combination of the great first impressions her soon-to-be coach made and BYU’s focus on academics that tipped the scale.

Meanwhile, Teagan Grant ’19, a defenseman for the Toronto Junior Aeros and new member of Canada’s National Women’s U18 team, has known she would be attending the University of Wisconsin since December of 2016. She finally made it official by putting pen to paper last week and formally committing to the Badgers, currently ranked first in the NCAA Women’s Ice Hockey program. Teagan will attend Wisconsin on a full hockey scholarship after considering offers from other top NCAA DI schools. But before “Teags” heads south of the border, she’ll lace up for Team Canada this January at the IIHF World Championships in Japan.

We wish both Lexie and Teagan continued success during their final year of high school, and all the best at their respective universities next fall!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
