CDS Celebrates Terry Fox

Last Friday, The Country Day School held its 28th run for Terry Fox in which the entire school participated. In her remarks in the Middle/Senior School spirit Assembly, Grade 12 student Nika Ghasimi shared her personal fight against cancer and reminded her peers that one’s life is not something to ever take for granted.
Students then heard from Dr. Victor Ling, founding president and scientific director of the Terry Fox Research Institute (TFRI). Dr. Ling sent a personalized video greeting to our students from Vancouver. He told the students, “I look forward to a great future, in which we can make Terry’s dream come true … that we will find a cure for all cancer.”

Dr. Ling went on to say that Terry would be proud of every one of them for supporting his dream to end cancer.

Meanwhile, the Junior School dedicated their Terry Fox Day to Ms. Collins. Ms. Wildberger expressed the sentiment to her students as follows: “We ran where she loved to be. We did what she loved to do: smile, be happy and be outside. And while we were outside, we remembered all the things she taught us and the fun things she did with us.”

With these inspirational words in mind, students, faculty and staff ran and walked throughout the School’s extensive trail system with the Junior School running/walking a shorter loop for 30 minutes and the Middle/Senior School students running/walking a longer loop that included a colour run component and fun House competition events.

If you haven’t already, please watch our Terry Fox video. Not only is it a recap of the day, but a tribute to a beloved teacher, colleague and friend, Ms. Steph Collins.

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
