Grade 7's to Haliburton

Our Grade 7 students, along with six teachers, headed off for their annual trip to Haliburton, Ontario from October 2 to 4.
Upon arriving, students were greeted by the friendly staff of Haliburton Hockey Haven who were prepared with many activities fitting with the trip theme of Exploring New Havens. This included our Survival Challenge where students had 45 minutes before “the storm touched down” and needed to be prepared to survive in the outdoors for seven days. Much strategy and creativity was applied. On Thursday, the students headed to Haliburton Forest where they took part in three different activities: a low ropes course, Haliburton Wolf Centre, and the Walking on a Cloud canopy tour. Before leaving on Friday, all students took part in a game called StockTicker, an economic strategy game, buying stocks in businesses such as Taylor’s Camping Trailer, Marshall Mansion, and Drake’s Mixtapes. The chilly weather and sprinkles of rain did not get the students down as they made the most of the experience, enjoying time with friends, peers and teachers whilst exploring all that Haliburton had to offer.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
