All Three CDS Debaters were Finalists at IISPSC!

Once again, The Country Day School successfully competed in the International Independent Schools’ Public Speaking Competition (IISPSC), this year hosted by The Hotchkiss School and Buckingham, Browne & Nichols in Boston.
Out of 44 teams from across the world, the CDS team placed third overall for Canada, and every CDS competitor placed in the finals. Maria Ivoditova ’22 competed in the finals for persuasive speaking with a speech on fast fashion, Eliza Pasha ’22 competed in the final for drama with a piece about a woman suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder, and Anna Croxon ’20 competed in the finals for drama and impromptu speaking with a piece about the betrayal and loss of a loved one.

Eliza also came in third overall for competitors under 16 years of age. Finally, Anna came in fourth overall and has thus qualified to compete in the 2020 World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships in Shanghai, China.

Congratulations to the CDS team and our competitors. Becoming finalists is an incredible accomplishment, and Anna is excited to represent CDS at Worlds in April.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
