Younger Debaters Rising Through the Ranks

Last week, Arjun Walia ’22 travelled to Winnipeg to participate in the Senior National Public speaking Championships at St. John’s-Ravenscourt School. Arjun scored consistently high across all categories, especially Persuasive, Debate and Impromptu Speaking, however, only the top six students qualify for the World Championships from this event, held next year in Shanghai in April.
In other debating news, Nilou Tabandeh Doust ’22 and Michelle Cai ’21, both new to CDS this year, competed in a regional qualifier at St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School in Brampton last weekend and have qualified for the Provincial Debating Championships at Ashbury College in Ottawa this February.

Kudos to our coaches Ms. Kerstin Wyndham-West and Mr. Zac Fanni!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
