CDS Walks For Terry Fox

Last week, the Country Day School held its 29th annual run for Terry Fox in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Terry's Marathon of Hope. For the first time in the School's history, the event took place over two days so as to be mindful of safety and ensure physical distancing.
Junior School students walked as cohorts on Friday in their House colours for 40 minutes throughout the Back 40 on their own specially-dedicated running trail in an effort to help keep Terry's dream alive. Smiles and laughter were heard throughout the trails as our students walked among teachers and friends in memory of this beloved Canadian hero.

Middle School students also walked on Friday in their spirit wear alongside members of their cohorts, with Grade 7s walking on the Gord Lytle Loop and Grade 8s along the Jackson Pine Trail enjoying the beautiful autumn weather.

Meanwhile, Senior School students participated one day earlier on Thursday and had four trails to walk on, including the addition of the Ms. Collins' Talking Circle Loop and Cyclone Ridge Trail. Along with the decorations and music supplied by this year's Student Council, students were encouraged to bring along their phones as QR codes were scattered along the trails. These codes linked to information related to Terry Fox Day created by the House Captains.

Thankfully, the weather cooperated beautifully and our spirits remained unified as we walked much further apart than previous years, yet together with the goal of keeping Terry's dream of finding a cure for cancer alive.

Over the past 28 years, CDS has raised $524,769 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Thank you once again for your support.

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
