Window into the Roaring 1920s in Grade 10 History

In Ms. Moonan's Grade 10 Canadian History class, the students are currently wrapping up a unit on the 1920s. Throughout the unit, they learned about the economic roar, analyzed the laws surrounding Prohibition, learned about key Canadian events, and acted in character as they engaged in a physically distanced speakeasy icebreaker activity.

Watch her amazing video.
The final assessment for the unit called on students to create a project that displayed their knowledge of the era. Chelsea Lowe ’23 decided to pitch her own idea - a video on Eventing, an equestrian sport that increased in popularity following World War I. Chelsea took her understanding one step further by filming herself completing an eventing course on horseback.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
