CDS Celebrates World Read Aloud Day 2021

Hillary Hall, JS Librarian
CDS Junior School staff, students and their families answered the challenge to share stories together on February 3rd by participating in WORLD READ ALOUD DAY! This global literacy event is celebrated in over 173 countries now and the numbers continue to grow.
Making the time to read aloud to each other felt even more important than ever this year with us all finding ourselves craving more connections and shared experiences. Our Junior School community came together, from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6, to read aloud to each other and share their favourite books in their classes throughout the day in Google Meets online.

Students and family members took special time out of their days to read aloud to one another at home as well. A few sweet pets and well-loved stuffed toys got to join in on the fun too as we could see from the photos that were shared from the day! Thanks to all our super readers for making our 2nd annual ‘World Read Aloud Day’ come alive virtually and in your homes!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
