CDS Sports Recap from October!
CDS sent three female golfers with Coach Jepson to the Ontario Championships (OFSAA) in Hamilton on Wednesday and Thursday. The competition consisted of two rounds of golf on a challenging course. Hadley McHenry shot a 90 on the first day, and an 83 on the second to capture an OFSAA silver medal in the high school division!

In the open division, Mia Sung shot an 80 on her first round and an 83 on her second round to place her 8th overall in the province!
And Grade 9 golfer, Angelina Cai, shot an 88 and a 91 to place her 11th in the province.
A phenomenal performance by all!
- Senior Boys' Soccer played last Wednesday at Villanova. After falling behind in the first few minutes, they dominated the rest of the first half but weren't able to score. They continued strong into the second half, but then Villanova scored a second. The boys rallied behind a goal from Kellan Sherman, but ultimately lost 2-1. They play an exhibition game against Hillfield Strathallan College today.
- The U16 Boys' Soccer team headed up SAC and fell behind 4-0 early in the game. They battled back hard with Daniel Damianidis scoring from outside the 18 yard box. In the second half, Ryan Letichever broke through their defence and potted another goal. Moments later a free kick sailed over the cross bar. SAC scored a late goal to solidify the win. Solid goaltending from Martin Roussev and Bevin Amarasinghe kept us in the game. A great attitude and a strong physical presence in the second half helped them finish on a positive note.
- The Senior Girls' Soccer team had a tough loss on Wednesday afternoon against the reigning champs, BSS. The girls went up 2-0 in the first half with goals from Hannah Clarke and Kate Burleigh. A massive shout-out to Sarah Martin who took the field this year as a first-time goalie, making huge saves, including a penalty shot! Unfortunately, they didn't come out on top losing 3-2, but are eager to play them again soon!
- The U15 Girls' Soccer played Greenwood College last week at home. They started off the game with a new system which turned out to be a huge success. The girls went up 5-0 before the first half was over. Julia scoring a hat trick with two of our youngest grade 7 players, Sloane Cowan and Kaitlyn Wakeman putting away a goal each. In the second half we switched around our positions a bit and worked hard to maintain our shut out. The girls played great!
- The Senior Boys' Volleyball team played an epic game against Crestwood last week. It was a David vs Goliath match and CDS rose to the challenge and took a set off Crestwood. All the games were close and had some momentum changing serving runs and digs to keep the play alive. We’re making great progress and ready for two matches this week to prep for playoffs.
- The Junior Boys' Volleyball team faced undefeated Crestwood in exhibition play yesterday. Despite a strong start, the team fell in straight sets, before salvaging a 4th "fun" set. The team used this match as an opportunity to learn and improve.
- The Senior Girls' Basketball team had not just one game, but two last week. After losing to first place Crestwood on Monday, they returned to action against Ridley on Wednesday. They anticipated a more competitive game and were not disappointed. The two teams were separated by only one point after a low-scoring first half, but then CDS rode an offensive explosion to cruise to a 41-18 win.
Congratulations to ALL the girls for their defensive intensity, and extra shout outs go to Rachel, Mari, Rayna and Sam, who each contributed multiple buckets in support of our usual power trio of Tawana, Megan and Riya. What a fantastic finish to the girls' regular season home schedule. The girls' final regular season game will be contested on Tuesday against Appleby.
