The Heart Card Project

The Grade 5 classes took part in a special activity called, The Heart Card Project, facilitated by their Art teacher, Ms. Kuchmak. The project was inspired by artist James Goldcrown, a self-taught artist/photographer who works out of Los Angeles. He is well known for his “Bleeding Hearts/Lovewall” paintings and murals around the world.
The week before Valentine’s Day, the classes created their own interpretation of the 'bleeding hearts’ and used oil pastels to create heart cards. Students experimented with different colour schemes before settling on their favourite combination. Final creations were completed on quality cardstock cards that were sent home to parents. Ms. Kuchmak thoughtfully included information for parents who wished to scan their child’s original designs into a series of cards. The Grade 5s can be very proud of their creative designs.

Happy Heart Month!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
