Story Walk Celebrating Earth Week

Hillary Hall, JS Librarian
Our JK to Grade 6 students had the exciting opportunity to get outside during our Earth Week celebrations to participate in an interactive 'Story Walk'. The Story Walk was a fun and innovative way for our classes to combine their love of reading and being outdoors at the same time!
Enlarged pages attached to signposts from award winning author-illustrator Alma Fullerton's book, entitled No More Plastic (nominated as a finalist in the 2022 Ontario Library Association's Forest of Reading program), were installed along a path in our outdoor classroom that directed readers to follow along the trail to the next page in the story. Pages also contained QR codes with links to additional author information and videos that students could access with their devices to further explore and learn more.

In keeping with our CDS 'Conservation' theme this month, this Canadian story features diorama art made from plastic waste and the story itself, ultimately, serves as a hopeful reminder that the health of our oceans -- and our planet -- is in all of our hands.

Thanks to all the CDS staff and students who participated in bringing the Story Walk to life, and for thinking about how we can make every day -- Earth Day.

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
