Looking for a New Book? Here's what CDS is Reading!

Madeline Brayman '22
In January, Mr. Fanni and Ms. Hudson approached Marianna SperanzaNilou Doust, and myself for student-driven ideas of how to celebrate World Book Day in April as further inspiration to read for pleasure outside of the English curriculum. As part of their work on the GenZ literacy subcommittee, a survey was sent out earlier in the year to get feedback from students regarding their reading habits. One common response was that students wanted to know what kinds of books were popular among the CDS faculty and student leaders. 📗
Using this feedback, our group came up with the idea of getting out of our reading comfort zone by reading something new, and chose to promote this by using the themed background idea! We hope that if someone sees an aesthetic collage that they enjoy, they will be more inclined to try reading a new book. This idea was inspired by book videos that are popular on TikTok, in which many creators promote their favourite book using aesthetic pictures associated with their choice. We believe this adds a fresh and modern twist on expanding our title choices and reading genres!

We hope you enjoy this promotional video that was shown in the Senior School Assembly on Monday. May it inspire all of us to move outside of our reading comfort zones and try new genres! 📘

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
