SKs Traveled into Space Yesterday!

Jenn Vipond
Yesterday our SK students had an epic adventure in space. First, the students put on their astronaut helmets and made sure their jet packs were secure. Then, they made their way to the gym where Astronomy in Action was waiting with their portable planetarium. Inside the planetarium, the students blasted off and toured all around our solar system.

While in space, they saw craters being formed on the moon, visited each planet in the solar system, waved hello to the astronauts in the International Space Station and even travelled through a wormhole. It was a truly out-of-this-world experience! When the students returned to earth, their only regret was not being able to stay in space longer.

We finished up the day with some special space-themed crafts, activities and games. It was a day filled with inspiration and learning. One that we will never forget!

The following are some priceless comments shared by some of our budding astronauts:

“I loved looking at the moon and the planets.” Mila

“We got to fly up to space.” Leo

“My favourite part was when we landed on Venus and we were walking.” Lucas

“The best part was going to space and seeing all of the planets close up.” Róisín

“I loved when we went inside of the black hole and got back out.” Chloe

“I loved when we went through the wormhole.” Katrina

“I liked climbing into the spaceship.” Alex

“I had so much fun.” Gemma

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
