Writer's Craft Welcomes Guest Speaker

Sarah Hudson
Last Friday, the Grade 12 English Writer's Craft class hosted a visiting speaker who shared her experience in the TV and movie industry.
Kate Hewlett is a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada, Queen's University. She is a writer, actor, songwriter, Executive Producer who is known for her work on the Disney series Backstage, The L.A. Complex, Seed and InSecurity and many more. Kate’s stage play, The Swearing Jar, was nominated for a Governor General's Literary Award, and the film adaptation was featured at TIFF this year. The Swearing Jar has been described as, “an intelligent, hopeful, and heartbreaking musical drama about moving on, exploring what can happen when you’re determined to write your own destiny in love and in life.”

The students will now take what they learned and apply Kate's advice to the screenplays and scripts they'll be working on in class.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
