Public Speaking Competition in Boston

Our three CDS debaters performed extremely well at last week’s International Independent Schools' Public Speaking Competition (IISPSC) held at Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts. Ananya Kapur ‘26 placed in the top 20 for Interpretive Reading and Diviya Amarnath ‘25 placed in the top 8 for Radio Newscast.
Millie Steinmann ‘25 placed 1st in the Dramatic Monologue category, placed 2nd in Persuasive Speaking, received an award for being the top speaker under 16 at the tournament, and placed 6th as an overall top speaker in the tournament, qualifying her to attend World's Individual Debate and Public Speaking Championships in Durban, South Africa in March 2023. This is the 15th year in a row that a CDS student has qualified for Worlds!

As a team, The Country Day School placed in the top 10 overall out of 32 schools that participated. Congratulations to all three of our debaters and their coaches!!!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
