Remembrance Day in the Junior School

Last week, every student and every adult in our Junior School placed a poppy of remembrance on our JS Poppy Fence. This was our way to recognize the 101st anniversary of the poppy. And a promise that we will always remember, today, tomorrow and always.

The Junior School has learned that the wars of yesteryear and today can hurt those who are off at war, those military families at home and even the youngest of children.

Building a world without war will continue to be our greatest dream. It is the job of each and every one of us to be peaceful in our own way. Every little act of peace is important. Remembrance Day is a day we focus on keeping peace, doing the right things so our community remains focussed on being united together.

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
