Students Take Advantage of University Visits During Lunch
Since the third week of September, the Post-Secondary Counselling Office has been hosting admissions representatives from universities and colleges across Canada during lunchtime for not only Grade 12s, but Grade 9s, 10s and 11s to stop by and have an informative chat.
There have been the usual suspects like University of Waterloo, Huron and Western University, McMaster, Carleton and University of Ottawa, in addition to an East Coast University Consortium, Bishop’s University from Quebec, and UBC and Quest University from British Columbia.
Tomorrow, a group of top universities from Ohio (Bowling Green State University, Miami University, University of Cincinnati, Ohio University, Kent State University, University of Akron) will be set up in the Mantella Atrium starting at 11:45 am. Next week, Queen’s University is hosting an information session specific to GYs interested in applying on Tuesday, Nov. 22, followed by an information booth during lunch. Then the University of Toronto will be here for lunch on Wednesday, Nov. 23. All visits are listed in the school calendar.
With deadlines for submitting university applications less than two months away, this is very much top of mind for our Grade 12 students. But it’s not too early for the younger students to start thinking about their upcoming journey. Having these representatives make themselves available for informal one-on-one conversations in a casual setting is a wonderful way for students to start acquainting themselves with the post-secondary process!
Land Acknowledgment
The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
