Hannah Clarke '23 Commits to Play D1 Hockey

Congratulations to Hannah Clarke ’23 who recently committed to play NCAA D1 Women’s Hockey for Providence College (@pcwhockey) in Rhode Island – starting in the 2024-2025
season!
A multi-sport athlete during her years at CDS, Hannah has been an integral player on CDS teams since Grade 5, including volleyball, soccer, hockey, track, and most recently powerlifting, earning her Athlete of the Year more years than not, and numerous MVP and Sportsmanship awards across all sports. She has also played rep hockey in Aurora for the past five years, most recently with the Central York Panthers Junior program for the past two seasons. Prior to that, Hannah played boys hockey with the Richmond Hill Stars since as early as she can remember.

“Going to the rink and playing sports for me was always second nature,” says Hannah. “My standards were always high in terms of competitiveness as my baseline was basically trying to beat my brother at everything we did from running a race, to long jump, to catching the biggest fish.” Hannah’s brother, Caleb ‘20, played AAA hockey and is on the track team at Western University.

According to Ms. Andrea Leacock, who has taught and coached her for the past six years, “I have had the pleasure of knowing and watching Hannah grow into the outstanding athlete and individual she is in our school and the greater community, both in an academic setting and outside the walls of the classroom.”

Leacock goes on to say, “I have watched Hannah demonstrate resilience day in and day out, on the field and on the ice. Her commitment to her team, no matter the circumstances, speaks to her determination and grit as an individual. She is an exemplary teammate, striving to make those around her better, yet also a fierce competitor, thriving in high-pressure environments and never backing down from a challenge. She plays a leading role in creating team culture that coaches dream of: positive and supportive, yet competitive and driven.”

Outside of athletics, Hannah has remained actively involved in student leadership over her time at CDS, serving on the Middle School Council, as a House Captain and currently as a member of Student Council. According to those who know her, she has consistently demonstrated enthusiasm and selfless leadership and her approachable nature speaks to her unique ability to make those around her feel seen, included and heard. Hannah shows great humility in her actions and is remarkably humble, making her a great role model for her peers.

With an inner drive to constantly keep improving, Hannah plans to focus on her academics while playing her sport at the highest level that she ever imagined. She continues to love showing up early and staying late at CDS for any and all sports (in her mind nothing beats fresh early morning free ice before anyone else arrives) and taking full advantage of the von Schilling Family Fitness Centre on campus. If you cannot find her, she is sure to be working out and training with Ms. K or any member of the athletic department.

Next year Hannah plans to start pursuing a Kinesiology degree, which will transfer with her to Providence College the following fall.

We wish her all the best!
