World Read Aloud Day: February 3

This year, we will be celebrating World Read Aloud Day on Friday, February 3rd, between 2:30-3:15 pm. Junior students will be paired with Middle and Senior students and classes will meet in pre-determined locations to read aloud together.
To add to the spirit of the day, it will be a pyjama day in the Junior School, and dress down day for Grade 7s and Senior School students. Students are encouraged to bring in gently used books to donate to the Children's Book Bank of Canada (please review attached list of books in demand) or donate a toonie to the cause (it costs them $2 in overheads / book that they give away).

The Children's Book Bank provides free books and literacy support to children and families in high-needs neighbourhoods across the GTA. Please review the attached poster outlining books in highest demand and watch this video featuring one of our graduates, Loribeth Gregg ’09, Director of Development, The Children’s Book Bank.

The collection box for gently used books for The Children’s Book Bank is located in the Senior School beside the Winch Family Learning Stairs. Monetary donations may be made in Homeroom. Junior School students can bring their toonies and book donations to their Homeroom teacher.

Thank you CDS for generously supporting this important cause!

Land Acknowledgment

CDS wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. For thousands of years, these have been the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We also recognize the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples who also shared this land.  CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for these lands and waters for future generations.
