Grade 8s Enjoy Whirlwind Tour of Ottawa

CDS Grade 8 students returned home Friday from an action-packed four days in Ottawa, including a visit to the Canadian Museum of History, a Cave Tour at Arbraska Lafleche, the largest underground cave system in the Canadian Shield, and lunch at the famous Byward Market.

Students skated at City Hall and visited the "haunted" Carleton County Gaol (Jail) before a trip along Sussex Drive to the Supreme Court of Canada. We even had a tour with CDS alumnus, Will Eberlee ’11, a Judicial Law Clerk at the Supreme Court!

Our Grade 8s also attended Question Period in the House of Commons before finishing off their final day with a visit to the Canadian War Museum. The time flew, friendships were solidified, and we all returned home more knowledgeable about our nation's capital!

Land Acknowledgment

The Country Day School wishes to recognize and acknowledge the land on which the school operates. Our nearest Indigenous Nations are now the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island. The Dish with One Spoon Wampum covenant is often cited as an example of the shared responsibility for caring for these lands among the Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples who would call these their traditional territories. CDS respects the relationship with these lands and recognizes that our connection to this land can be strengthened by our continued relationship with all First Nations, by acknowledging our shared responsibility to respect and care for the land and waters for future generations.
