Students Embrace Winter in Saint-Donat, QC

Olivia Budweth ‘25 and Lily Chen ‘25
Last week, the Grade 10 and 11 French classes travelled to Saint-Donat, Quebec, for an action-packed trip filled with winter sports, outdoor activities, evening shows, and beaucoup de français.

The seven-hour bus ride went by quickly as it was filled with music blasting on the speakers and lots of sing-alongs! After a quick stop for lunch, we arrived at the Etoile du Nord lodge. It was a true French immersion experience as we put our French skills to the test whenever we were interacting with program coordinators and townspeople.

After dinner, students were split into groups where we played outdoor games in the snow and acted out a historic Québécois legend.

On Thursday morning, we woke up bright and early for some cross-country skiing. It was a great day on the trails with fresh air and beautiful natural surroundings. In the afternoon, we headed to Mont-Garceau for skiing and snowboarding lessons. The next day, the students returned to Mont-Garceau to enjoy their last day on the slopes … in newly groomed snow!

Everyone pushed their limits and made new friends in their ski groups. We then visited La Boulangerie (the bakery) in the town where we enjoyed some delectable local desserts and continued to explore the area.

Like it had begun, the trip home on Saturday once again included music and happiness, as well as newly formed friendships. It’s safe to say that everyone had lots of fun and laughs before, during, and after. The Saint-Donat trip will always be a core memory.
